WHY Forget Kendrick + Schoolboy Q, SZA is the first lady signed to Top Dawg Entertainment for a chillwave reason.
SZA co-wrote and sang on Consideration, featured on Rihanna’s Anti album. She's also worked with Kendrick and Chance the Rapper – hell, she’s even collaborated with Jill Scott, on a seven-and-a-half minute song called Divinity. So, we're pretty sure she’s heading for a big time, with a new album rumoured to be coming out this year. Mixing up R&B sounds with trap beats and a soulful voice, SZA has the lilting rhythm of a jazz singer mixed with some super contemporary know-how (her list of influences runs from chill-wave to cloud rap). As a versatile performer, all these different elements find a home within her sound, meaning we're pretty much hooked.
"Being who you are is important. Once you alter who you are, people will think they were right [about you] the whole time.” SZA
