Spotlight On: mono.kultur's fresh zine-making
'Spotlight On' is our new features series – short, snappy and shining a light on a few of our favourite things. This week, Jade French picks the pull-apart zine mono.kultur. If you'd like your work to be Spotlighted email firstname.lastname@example.org.
mono.kultur make fresh zines that focus on some of art and music’s most influential movers and shakers. They've been going for 10 years, and we hope for many more.
In their own words:
mono.kultur is an independent interview magazine from Berlin. The concept is: one issue, one person, one conversation. Every issue is dedicated entirely to one artist from the various genres of culture – including architecture – and contains one extensive and in-depth Q/A interview – no more, no less. Carefully edited and designed, each issue is adapted to and produced in close cooperation with the given interview partner.
If conversations with the likes of Kim Gordon, Brian Eno, Ryan McGinley and Tilda Swinton aren’t enough to grab your attention, then their dedication to design and reader experience will. Their zines are carefully crafted, with bits to pull out and explore. Held together by elastic bands or specially designed covers, the conversation with the artist extends beyond the words spoken to embody the entire experience of reading, touching and owning. Total zine crush.
