A Bloody Trump Protest: The Pussy Grabs Back

A Bloody Trump Protest: The Pussy Grabs Back

On 21st January, millions of women and their allies in over 50 countries around the world raised their feet and their voices in protest of the inauguration of Donald Trump and for women’s rights.

As we have already seen President Trump has signed in the “global gag rule” preventing NGOs that receive any US aid from “providing counselling or referrals for abortion or advocating for access to abortion services in their country”.

The wave of anger and defiance at the election of a blatant misogynist was palpable as we walked, danced and shouted our way from the U.S. embassy to Trafalgar Square. The march was filled with people of all ages carrying signs from the classic “girls just want to have Fundamental rights” to “Love trumps hate” and “trump means fart” or the beauty that is this piece's main bloody picture.

As an American citizen, myself I marched alongside my father and my friends against the pervasive feeling that the hard-won rights that we have won are under threat, that funding to health programs will be cut including the Affordable Care Act and that we should be building bridges not borders across the world.

The march has been criticised for its focus on cis-women and lack of intersectionality and the challenge now will be ensuring inclusivity and marching on to ensure positive action.
