Op Sa! Balkan Band

PEAKS: Balkan Stories were lucky enough to play host to this fiery travelling party that goes by the name of Op Sa! They are big, bold and brass-heavy. We were mesmerised, the crowd compelled to dance and unable to drag themselves away from turned into a lively gypsy party.

On Tuesday night then, we bore witness to how the band bring their own passionate brand of Balkan music, influenced by the roots of the Serbian Kolo and the Turkish čoček, their repertoire proved to be an addictive blend of wild beats, gypsy flair and modern sound...

Performing live at PEAKS: Balkan Stories @ Joyeux Bordel, Shoreditch on Tuesday 12th April.

So, listeners, below you can look forward to hearing music from Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia and the Romani culture with a growing number of original compositions and arrangements incorporating jazz and rock influences. The band’s sets are orchestrally varied and dynamic, and ooze passion for what they do. Teaming a traditional brass trumpet section with clarinets, saxophone, electric guitars, darabouka and a drum kit, they give a contemporary twist to deep-rooted cultural influences and create an unmistakeably rich sound.
